We Have a Walker AND a Kindergartner

Walking like a big boy

We got ourselves a walker!

I honestly didn't think it would happen before he turned two, he was such a potato baby only ten months ago! Jaxson has been going to Physical Therapy once a week since October of last year. He has definitely come a long way, he wasn't doing anything then, MAYBE rolling to one side but it was hit or miss. He does have an unstable gait which is one of the features of DYRK1A children but our little man is mobile!

He definitely amazes us every single day! I'm sure chasing after his big brother on a daily basis has helped as well. He really looks up to his big brother JJ, it is very sweet. I really love the special bond that they have and I hope that it continues to grow stronger as they both get older.

JJ's First Two Days of Kindergarten:

JJ started Kindergarten yesterday (August 13th) and I surprisingly didn't cry dropping him off. I drove him to school on the first day, walked with him to his classroom, and when it was time for me to leave -- he didn't cry nor did it faze him that he wasn't going to see momma all day. I walked with some mom friends to the cafeteria for "Boo Hoo Breakfast" haha, but there wasn't anyone crying. It was a sweet idea for us Kindergarten mommas!

Kindergarten is hard
As you can see from this photo that JJ is exhausted from Kindergarten. He has been doing awesome with finding his shapes, counting, colors, and writing his name. I'm proud of this little man! My friend texted me that when she was walking with her son to class she ran into JJ. She asked how his bus ride this morning went and he said, "I don't need any help, I know where my class is!" Haha, my little independent munchkin. He's made some friends too!

How did your children do on their first day of school? Any milestones or inchstones to share?

So, so close!

SO CLOSE TO WALKING!

Our little DYRK1A/Laryngomalacia Warrior is so close to walking!! He will be 17 months on the 22nd of this month. He can stand up and take a couple steps before falling down! He also started doing some funny "crawling"--he doesn't let his knees touch the tile (I'm assuming it's a Sensory issue) and "crawls" all over the house until he gets to the carpet. He's been crossing off a ton of inchstones the last few months, it's amazing!

Determination

Jaxson must be hitting a growth spurt or maybe it's because he's been around his older cousins while on vacation. He has been watching them and chasing after every single one of them at our BBQ.

He's literally doing so much and developing such an awesome personality.

Recently I wrote about Jaxson drinking out of a straw and how he's taking a couple steps before going face first into the ground. Last night he amazed us at 12:30 AM--yes, you read correctly AM. Jaxson is a party animal at night.

He started to push up on his feet and STAND for maybe a couple seconds. He did this so many times last night and would laugh, smile, and flail his arms back and forth with excitement. It was such the cutest thing. He was SO pleased with himself.

We also celebrated Airway Disorder Day 2018 yesterday--Did anyone else join us? I painted my nails light blue for my little warrior and he was rocking his Lu the Lamb onesie from Coping with LM.

He has a one track mind and is very determined but it'll definitely benefit him in the future. He's one tough cookie that's for sure!

Crossing Off Another Inchstone

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Jaxson hit another inchstone today while at our family's BBQ.

He USED a straw!

AND he drank something other then ALMOND MILK!

DISCLOSURE: As an Amazon Affiliate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Our Feeding Therapist would be proud being that he REFUSED to use anything but his MAM baby bottles for drinking.

I've tried a MAM sippy cup, Playtex sippy cup, you name it!

Now I'm going to look into purchasing sippy cups with a straw, any advice? Any favorites? Please give this momma some ideas!

Inchstones Not Milestones

What are Inchstones?

Like most families I celebrated all of the typical milestones with my oldest, JJ. He reached all of his milestones early.. he crawled by five months, he walked by eleven months, cut his first tooth by seven months, he upgraded to a sippy cup by nine months, and so on and so forth.

So what does inchstones mean? Let's do some math shall we (not my strong suit so bear with me lol):

An inch is an inch.
And 36,650 inches make a mile.

An inch is smaller than a mile but with a special needs child you celebrate every. single. achievement. No matter how small.

No longer needing thickened feeds, consume a 5 oz bottle in less then five minutes (use to take him an hour to consume one whole ounce), and eat small finger/table foods and snacks.

Jaxson just recently started to take two to four steps unassisted AND standing for a couple seconds before plopping down. HUGE ACHIEVEMENTS. Just six months ago he started to army crawl, then he started to crawl on all fours and sit up four months ago, pull up to stand and cut his first tooth three months ago.. and now look at him, 16 months old and taking his first unsteady step.

Potato baby no more!
